FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
How long until my pool can be installed?
To expedite your swimming pool installation, we use a qualified building surveyor to certify your application to ensure that they are approved by your local council from 3 – 4 weeks. In most cases, we can install your pool 3 weeks from the time of council approvals.
Following installation of a fibreglass pool, how soon can we swim
Most pools are installed and ready to swim in within 21 working days (subject to weather). Within a few days of excavation, the pool is delivered and put into place. Next installation and plumbing will commence within 1 – 2 days of installation and finally a handover is done after completion and you are ready to swim.
How close to my boundary fences and house wall can I go?
The general rule of thumb is your swimming pool must be away from the boundary as it is deep. For example, a 1.5m deep pool needs to be 1.5m away from any structures (subject to local laws). If space is an issue we can work with engineers to establish if it is possible to install the pool closer.
What are the benefits of choosing a fibreglass pool?
here are a number of benefits of choosing a fibreglass swimming pool including:
- A much faster installation process
- A lower cost concrete pools
- The pool ambient water temperature will be warmer meaning you can swim longer each year without heating
- A wider variety of colour finishes are available with fibreglass swimming pools
Will I need to test my swimming pool water?
Yes, maintaining correct chemical levels and water quality is an important part of swimming pool maintenance and safety. You should regularly test levels of the following:
- pH
- Chlorine
- Total alkalinity
- Calcium Hardness
We also recommend that you have a sample of your pool water professionally tested by your local pool shop every 4-6 weeks during the months you are swimming.
How do I keep the pool water clear?
If the chemicals in your pool water are not balanced correctly this will often result in the water becoming cloudy.
Other potential causes can be;
- high phosphate levels (caused by garden fertiliser, contamination from animals),
- early algae growth
- high calcium concentration
- pool water that is too warm
A lack of backwashing the filter can also cause the water to turn cloudy
My pool has a good chlorine level, but is turning green with algae?
If this is occurring you need to test the stabiliser level. If it is above 100ppm, this will cause ‘chlorine lock’, which means that chlorine is present in the water but is not able to kill off the algae. By reduce the stabiliser level to within the recommended ranges (40-70ppm) you should be able to rectify this problem.
Why are there bubbles returning to the pool?
Bubbles can return to the pool for a number of reasons;
- The pools water level may be low allowing air to mix with water through the skimmer. Keep the water level topped up to prevent this.
- The skimmer weir may be stuck in the ‘Up’ position, which allows air to mix with water in the suction line.
- There may be a leak in the suction piping or inside any suction side valve at the stem O-ring. Please contact Melbourne Pools for additional information and repair advice.
My pool light has stopped working?
Firstly thoroughly check all fuses, switches, breakers and Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) outlets. Secondly check that the light is switched on at the transformer location. If any of these have tripped, the power will not continue on to the pool light transformer. It is recommended that you contact Melbourne Pools to assist in determining where this power fault is coming from.
The surface on my concrete pool is fading.
This can be caused by an excessive build up of calcium and chemicals. Your local pool shop can assist you in testing your pool water and advice of the appropriate solution in reducing any build up.
